North San Jose, San Jose, CA

North San Jose is a neighborhood in San Jose south of Highway 237 and just north of downtown San Jose. It is home to many headquarters of famous tech companies such as Samsung, Roku, and Cisco. It also houses the San Jose Airport and the local MLS soccer team.

San Jose Airport

Founded in 1965, the San Jose Airport was originally a flight school but the city decided to develop it into a municipal airport. Named after former mayor and congressman, Norman Y. Mineta, this airport serves 12 million passengers annually and has 44 nonstop destinations. Due to the proximity to downtown, many buildings in the area cannot exceed a certain height due to air traffic.

San Jose Earthquakes Logo

Founded in 1974, the Earthquakes were founded as a part of the North American Soccer League but joined the MLS in 1994 and played in the MLS’s first ever game against D.C. United. Since then, the team has won two championships (2001, 2003) but unfortunately finished the latest 2024 season in last place in the league.

PayPal Park

Built in 2015, this stadium was originally called Avaya, as the tech company paid $20 million over the span of ten years for the naming rights of the stadium. This stadium seats 18,000 and it cost $100 million to build. In 2021, It was announced that a new deal was struck with PayPal for the naming rights of the stadium and has been called PayPal Park ever since.

Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve

Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve is an over 1,500 acres of nature preserve east of the city. Opened in 2002 to the public, it is home to multiple wildlife species including the red-legged frogs, golden eagles, mount lions, and bobcats. There are over 10 miles of trails throughout the preserve with views of the whole south bay from many of it’s peaks.
